Behind the Panels Issue 85 – The Dark Knight Strikes Again

Behind-the-Panels-iss85-CoverIn this first issue for 2014, it’s the return of Chris Claremont! Expect a 12-part crossover series of his origin from Marvel. THEN, Ant-Man takes Batman Vs. Superman’s old release date. That’s a joke that writes itself. ALSO, what we’ve been reading, we get tongue twisted with the news headlines PLUS our Kick-Ass Pick of the Week, The Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. THIS is Behind the Panels.

Next week: Camelot 3000 by Mike W. Barr and Brian Bolland

Your hosts: Richard Gray, David McVay and David Longo.

  • Marvel has solicited the death of the Watcher and the return of the Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Fist, Elektra, Hulk, Nightcrawler and Doop solo series for April 2014. Our good friend Chris Claremont will be returning to pen Nightcrawler.
  • Meanwhile, DC will launch the weekly Batman: Eternal, and the ongoing Justice League United, Sinestro plus Aquaman and the Others (!) for April this year

  • Dark Horse has announced that a second series of Amala’s Blade will debut later in 2014. Check out the first trade paperback in stores now, because I’m quoted on the cover.

  • Batman Vs. Superman has been delayed until 2016, presumably so that Warner can cram more characters in sideways
  • Ant-Man has taken Batman Vs. Superman’s old release slot of 17 July 2015, bumping its release up by 2 weeks
  • Finally, keeping with the Batman theme of the week, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a trailer for Son of Batman, based on the Grant Morrison/Andy Kubert run. Here’s a taste:
