‘Captain America 3’ to open 6 May 2016, goes up against ‘Batman Vs Superman’?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier poster

Yesterday, the Internet had opinions on the notion that a Marvel Studios film would be going directly against DC/Warner’s Batman Vs. Superman in the May 2016 blockbuster line-up. Now The Hollywood Reporter is…reporting that it will be none other than Captain America 3 facing off against the caped duo of Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. Can the Star Spangled Man beat the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel? Marvel seems to be rolling the dice and hoping so.

Marvel appear pretty confident on the early buzz around Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so this doesn’t come as a surprise. (We’ll bring you our review next Thursday as soon as the embargo drops). Indeed, directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already confirmed that they will return for the next chapter. The studio still has several other unannounced films to go between now and the end of 2017, including the rumoured Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, Doctor Strange and Black Panther. Undoubtedly, more details will emerge closer to San Diego Comic-Con in July.

The world’s most expensive game of chicken might just result in one of the biggest summer blockbuster seasons since this one, and the one in 2015. However, with Marvel yet to make an official statement, this report is still just well-informed speculation. However, given the pattern so far, it makes sense, and a third Thor film can’t be too far away either.
