CBS unveils extended trailer for ‘Supergirl’

Supergirl (CBS) - Melissa Benoist

CBS has released the first extended 7-minute trailer for their upcoming SUPERGIRL series, set to kick off with star Melissa Benoist in the titular role.

It’s not a bird. It’s not a plane. It’s not a man. It’s Supergirl. In the new drama from the world of DC Comics, Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, embraces her superhuman abilities and becomes the hero she was always meant to be. This Fall on CBS.

We get a pretty decent look at the tone of the series from this trailer, which sits somewhere between the joyous nature of the 1978 Richard Donner film and an episode of Lois & Clark, and we hope the series finds a happy balance between the two of them. Brought to us from Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions (who also produce Arrow and The Flash for The CW), we know that there’s a tendency towards the melodramatic in their shows. Regardless, this is Supergirl in action like we’ve never seen her before.

Other cast members include her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), photographer Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) and the nefarious Hank Henshaw (David Harewood).

It’s coming to CBS this “fall” in the US. No word on an Australian network picking it up, but even if they do, chances are pretty good it will be shafted as soon as the cricket comes on.
