DC Comics announces 8 new mini-series for 2016

DC You Mini-Series 2016

USA Today has announced that DC Comics will be expanding their universe by publishing eight new six-issue mini-series in 2016. This announcement comes on the back of the freshly minted New DC Universe, also known as the DC You campaign.

Among the titles announced, the mini-series will include SWAMP THING, METAL MEN, RAVEN, FIRESTORM, KATANA: CULT OF THE KOBRA, POISON IVY: CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH, METAMORPHO and SUGAR & SPIKE.

Len Wein will write SWAMP THING, the character he co-created in 1971, along with METAL MEN. Meanwhile, Marv Wolfman of the 1980s New Teen Titans fame will tackle the RAVEN book, and Firestorm co-creator Gerry Conway will also return for FIRESTORM. Keeping it all in the family, Katana co-creator Mike W. Barr will also be on writing duties for KATANA: CULT OF THE COBRA.

POISON IVY: CYCLE OF LIFE AND DEATH will be written by Amy Chu (Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman, Strange Sports Stories), artist Aaron Lopestri will shapeshift once again into a writer for METAMORPHO and the legendary Keith Giffen will line up for the less familiar SUGAR & SPIKE, in what is described as “a grownup spin on Sheldon Mayer’s popular comic-book toddlers of the 1950s and ’60s.”

“They’re not spoiled kids anymore,” Giffen says of the new direction. “They’re older and they’re operating as private investigators handling problems and mysteries that the superheroes can’t handle themselves.”

Artists have not been announced for any of these titles as yet, but you can check out some art previews from USA Today below.
