DC jumps forward in time, brings back 3-D Motion Covers in September

Every September for the last few years has seen DC Comics launch a line-wide event, aimed at bringing a singular story across all their titles in the New 52. This September, it will be The New 52: Futures End, an event that will flash forward 5 years and depict what might happen to the heroes of the DCU.

According to an interview with Dan Didio over at Newsarama:

“It gives some exciting teases of potential storylines that might be coming for our characters in the near future ,” DiDio said of the event. “These stories aren’t going to just be tied into the weekly. But what you’ll be seeing is a lot of the writers who are working on series right now projecting forward — their ideas, their storylines, where they think their character might be five years from now. We really wanted to show things that seem like the logical progression of the characters and where the story lines are going,”

Spinning out of the weekly series launching in May, the month will also see the return of the high-selling (although less than universally loved) lenticular covers that characterised the Villain’s Month in September 2013. It will also lead into another weekly title in October, spinning out of the event.

Didio goes on to say that the event will give DC “a chance to reset the line a little bit and see where your strengths and weaknesses are”. He goes on to say that it will lead into “a new major project” in October.
