DC ‘The New 52 Villains Omnibus’ gets a 3D motion cover in December 2013

DC Villains Omnibus

Forever Evil and the villains month may only be kicking off this week, but DC Comics has announced (via its blog) that it is collecting all the issues together (minus the main Forever Evil mini-series) as one giant omnibus for December. If that isn’t enough, they’ll continue the 3D motion cover motif that will be spotted all this month as they disappear off comic shelves.

Forever Evil is the event that leads directly out of the recently finished “Trinity War“, and some may argue that it is a classic example of using one event to sell another. Indeed, the cliffhanger ending to Trinity War necessitates reading the Forever Evil mini-series, although we imagine a number of these issue listed below are optional. Either way, a return to 3D covers and multi-title events reminds us of the bad old days of the 1990s, which didn’t really end well for anybody. (We can’t say Marvel are treating our bank balances any kinder this week, with Infinity and X-Men: Battle of the Atom now running concurrently). Both companies still have major events before the end of the year, including DC’s extended “Zero Year” and Marvel’s “Inhumanity” leading directly out of Infinity, and the Cataclysm that follows HungerGot it?

This 1,184 page omnibus collects all 52 of September’s Villains month issues, including Justice League #23.1-23.4, Justice League of America #7.1-7.4, Justice League Dark #23.1-23.2, Aquaman #23.1-23.2, Earth 2 #15.1-15.2, The Flash #23.1-23.3, Green Arrow #23.1, Wonder Woman #23.1-23.2, Action Comics #23.1-23.4, Superman #23.1-23.4, Batman/Superman #3.1, Batman #23.1-23.4, Batman and Robin #23.1-23.4, Batman: The Dark Knight #23.1-23.4, Detective Comics #23.1-23.4, Green Lantern #23.1-23.4, Swamp Thing #23.1 and Teen Titans #23.1-23.2.

The hardcover stars villains such as The Joker, Grodd, Darkseid, Lex Luthor, Cheetah and dozens of others in stories written by Geoff Johns, Matt Kindt, Jeff Lemire, Ann Nocenti, Greg Pak, Gail Simone, Charles Soule, Peter J. Tomasi and many others.

The DC New 52 Villains Omnibus is on sale December 11 in comic book stores and on December 17 in bookstores everywhere. So if you don’t want to fork out the estimated $207.08* to buy all (you guessed it) 52 gimmick issues. The hardcover omnibus edition, on the other hand, has an RRP of $150, although places like Amazon are currently selling the book on preorder at the lower price of $96.75.
