Film: Fox to release ‘Deadpool’ in 2016, ‘Fantastic Four’ delayed

Deadpool test footage

20th Century Fox has announced that the highly demanded Deadpool film will make its way to cinemas on 12 February 2016. Although it is yet to be officially confirmed, it is expected to star character champion Ryan Reynolds with director Tim Miller behind the camera and a script by Zombieland scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Following the leak of some test footage done for the film, Internet interest has increased. Coupling that with the comedic success of Guardians of the Galaxy, Fox will be releasing the film only a few months before X-Men: Apocalypse. The character last appeared in the heavily maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although the portrayal (by Reynolds) was vastly different to both his comic book counterpart and the test footage.

Meanwhile, Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four will now move back from its 19 June 2015 release to August 7. The latter date became free when Assassin’s Creed was indefinitely bumped from that release spot, and it would appear that Fox is simply ensuring all of their major tentpoles have flags on them.
