First photo from Sony’s ‘Powers’, comic series relaunches December

Powers (TV and comic)

Powers fans can get their groove on today, with news for both the lovers of the comic and the forthcoming live-action series for Sony’s PlayStation Network.

From the latter, we get our first look at the lead characters in costume. USA Today has posted a photo of Sharlto Copley and Susan Heyward as Detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. While Copley doesn’t quite have the physical stature of his comic book counterpart, the versatile actor is sure to slip comfortably into the role when the show debuts on the PlayStation Network this December.

Powers began as a creator owned comic under Image Comics before moving to Marvel’s Icon imprint. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming, it concerns two detectives assigned to investigate cases involving superpowered beings.

Of course, there’s good news for the fans of that original comic as well. Marvel has announced in its December solicitations that a new Powers comic is on the way in December. Once again from Bendis and Oeming, the new ongoing series kicks off from #1 and promises to be a way for new fans to get into the comic.

Just in time for the debut of the long-awaited POWERS TV show comes this brand-new number one, a perfect jumping-on point for fans new and old! The Eisner Award-winning POWERS tells the story of homicide detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned cases specifically involving powers. If a superhero falls dead from the sky or a super villain is found dead in the gutter, it’s up to Walker and Pilgrim to solve the case. But having barely survived the most harrowing case of their careers and discovering government corruption of the highest level, Walker and Pilgrim are now faced with the most difficult decision they’ve ever had to make. Plus: the discovery of a power no one has ever seen before! This issue – double sized for the regular price – will also include an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the POWERS TV show with never-before-seen pictures from the set.
