In our review for Infinity #1, which hit stores and digital devices this week, we remarked that the perpetual cycle of events were aimed at “short term gains in sales spikes as the Big Two go tit for tat on the advanced reorder lists”. It seems that there isn’t audience fatigue just yet, as Marvel announce that the issue “has sold out at Diamond (though copies may be available at retail level) and will be immediately going back to press“. The second printing will be out 18 September, and come with a new cover, pictured below.
If you’ve been keeping up with Avengers and New Avengers, then Infinity is the book that starts to tie the events of those books together. If you haven’t,Infinity may seem like a lot of sudden movement enveloping your periphery. It’s a big cosmic adventure involving Thanos, Black Bolt and a bunch of Avengers, and it will be coming at you across multiple titles, tie-ins and mini-series for the foreseeable future.
The issue has received generally favourable reviews, with an average score of 8.0 out of 10 on Comic Book Roundup (from 18 critic reviews). From us, “it’s a cautious thumbs up for this first issue, pointing the Marvel Cosmic Universe in the right direction for a major clash, but still needing to show us the ability to pull it all together.”
