Joss Whedon discusses approach to Ultron in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Ultron and Ant-Man

Following yesterday’s chatter from Edgar Wright about how he won’t be using Ultron in his Ant-Man film, writer/director Joss Whedon has told EW how he will be using him in his upcoming sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The full interview will be in an upcoming issue of EW, but in this excerpt they have posted online, Whedon talks about creating a stripped-back version of the character.

“I knew right away what I wanted to do with him,” Whedon says. “He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who’s a witch.”

He adds that he loves Ultron as a character, “because he’s so pissed off”.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is released on 1 May 2015 from Disney.
