Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced that they’ve locked in dates for two mystery films on 6 May 2016 and 5 May 2017. So make sure you keep your calendar free for early May for the next four years or so.

Let the speculation commence! The immediate thought was Ant-Man, although this already has a 6 November 2015 release. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has previously hinted at a Doctor Strange film, and there are long-standing rumours of a Black Panther film. Let’s not forget that Daredevil is now back with the studio, who may be keen to capitalise on that.

For now it is educated guesswork, although we can feel fairly certain there will be a third Avengers film that seems more likely for the 2017 date. Either way, we’re excited for more Marvel flicks! Expect more details at either San Diego Comic-Con next month or Disney’s D23 Expo in August.

The current schedule now looks like this (using earlier Australian release dates where applicable):

31 October 2013 – Thor: The Dark World

3 April 2014 – Captain America: The Winter Soldier

1 August 2014 – Guardians of the Galaxy

1 May 2015 – The Avengers 2

6 November 2015 – Ant-Man

6 May 2016 – Unknown Marvel Phase 3 Film #1

5 May 2017 – Unknown Marvel Phase 3 Film #2
