With Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. an apparent success, Deadline reveals that Marvel Studios is developing “a package of four drama series and a miniseries — a total of some 60 episodes — that would be taken out to the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and WGN America rumored as potential candidates“.
This comes off the back of the news that Marvel already has an Agent Carter spin-off series in the works, based on the Captain America: The First Avenger character played by Hayley Atwell, and reprised in the Marvel One-Shot short film that accompanied the Iron Man 3 DVD and Blu-ray release.
A large commitment of 60 episodes is not typical for the studio system, although the groundbreaking studio has already shattered box office records and looks to be wanting some crossover potential across network, cable and VOD boundaries. Previous rumours had included a Hulk television series, along with something street-level involving the recently returned The Punisher or Daredevil.
With The Walking Dead cracking record numbers, Arrow readying a spin-off in The Flash, it looks like a new golden age for live-action comic book television. Now where’s that Wonder Woman series, DC?
