Marvel’s Netflix series to shoot in New York

Marvel and New York have been synonymous since the Fantastic Four first took residence in 1961, so it comes as no surprise that Marvel have plans to shoot their new series their Marvel Television/Netflix series there over the next few years. Disney CEO Bob Iger, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Marvel CCO Joe Quesada gathered together at a press conference in NYC to celebrate that Marvel’s previously announced Netflix series will film in New York.

According to the press release:

Filming is set to begin in the Summer 2014 and will create at least three thousand jobs in New York State including up to 400 full time jobs. The project will include nearly 60 one-hour episodes focused on the 4 Defenders characters: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

While no casting news has been revealed yet, the announcement confirms that Marvel will develop four serialized programs totalling 52 one-hour episodes culminating in a four to eight episode mini-series programming event for The Defenders. The aim is to create a television universe similar to the road to The Avengers on the big screen.

The various series are expected to be released exclusively on Netflix in 2015.
