Movie News: ‘Day Men’ at Universal, D.J. Caruso still on ‘Preacher’, Gregg Henry Joins ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’

Movie News - Day Men, Preacher, Guardians of the Galaxy

There so much movie news coming out at the moment, we’d go mad trying to post it all online. It’s why we do news headlines on the podcast. So here’s a bunch of random stuff that broke overnight and is probably worth mentioning.

Universal Studios is set to adapt the new Boom! Studios comic Day Men, which debuted late last month. In the comic, creators Matt Gagnon and Michael Alan Nelson take the mob thriller and mix it in with the supernatural, introducing us to David Reid, a vampire mob enforcer who does what his bosses can’t: get about during those sunshiny hours of the day. When one of the “family” is killed, retribution is coming, and it looks like Reid will be stuck in the middle of a war he may not live to see the end of. With art by Brian Stelfreeze, the film studio is reportedly excited by the success of their other Boom! Studios adaptation, 2 Guns. (Source: SuperHeroHype)

It’s been in development hell for quite some time, but in an interview with I Am Rogue provides some hope (or horror) for fans of Garth Ennis’s Preacher. Director D.J. Caruso confirmed that he is still attached to the project as a feature film. Now, is there any way we can get Caruso unattached?

“I’m still attached to Preacher and we’re wrestling with Sony because I got another movie at Sony calledInvertigo, which is a big action film we’re trying to get going this summer. So Preacher got put on the back burner, but we’re still involved with Preacher and hopefully we’ll have some good news on that soon. Todd August wrote a great script. I think it’s one of those features that has to kind of go through the studio system if it’s going to be made for a certain price. So we’re kind of revisiting a way to approach making the movie in the right way.”

Finally, actor Gregg Henry tweeted that he has joined the already massive cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, although there is no indication yet as to which role he is playing. Directed by James Gunn, the cast we already know about is Michael Rooker as Yondu, Djimon Hounsu as Korath, Lee Pace as Ronan, Karren Gillan as Nebula, Beneicio Del Toro as the Collector, Dave Bautista as Drax, Zoe Saldana as Gamora and Chris Pratt as Star-Lord. Rocket Raccoon is yet to be announced.
