Oz Comic-Con 2014: Georges Jeanty, David Yardin and Paul Abstruse join line-up

With the massive amount of screen and voice actors already announced, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Oz Comic-Con had forgotten the “comic” bit. With the announcement this week of three artists for Brisbane, Sydney and beyond, OCC 2014 is ensuring that the Artists Alley is filled with chances to get a sketch, chat or commission at one of the cons next year.

Georges Jeanty will make an appearance at the inaugural Sydney and Brisbane shows, Jeanty is perhaps best known for his work on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 and Season 9, where he worked with writers such as Jane Espenson, and comic book writers Brian K. Vaughn, Jeph Loeb, and Brad Meltzer and was nominated for an Eisner Award. Prior to this, he co-created The American Way for Wildstorm with Hollywood screenwriter John Ridley. More recently, he has introduced the character of Joker’s Daughter to the New 52 for DC Comics in Batman: The Dark Knight #23.4. His next major project is with Zack Whedon on Serenity: Leaves on the Wind, a Dark Horse follow-up to the Joss Whedon series and film. Check him out at his official website.

Australians David Yardin and Paul Abstruse are no strangers to the Oz Comic-Con and local scene. Yardin might be recognisable for a 4-year stint as the X-Factor cover artist, but the Sydney-based artist has worked for DC Comics, Image Comics, Boom Studios, and Valiant Comics. Recent stints include Injustice: Gods Among Us and A+X. Yardin will be at the Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney events in 2014. A sample of his work can be found on his official site.

Abstruse is known for Witch King, The Watch and My Little Pony for IDW. The comic book and tattoo artist is also based in Sydney, and has most recently worked on Sorab Del Rio’s Zombie Cities, Decay and a series of covers for . His diverse portfolio can be found online. He will be at the Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney shows next year.

  • Brisbane, QLD – September 6 and 7 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre
  • Sydney, NSW – September 13 and 14 at the Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island
