‘Saga’ wins Best Graphic Story at 2013 Hugo Awards

Saga

Image Comics’ Saga, by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples, has taken out the award for Best Graphic Story at the 2013 Hugo Awards. The World Science Fiction Society’s Hugo Awards were announced for the year at a ceremony LoneStarCon 3 in San Antonio, Texas. The toastmaster was Paul Cornell, himself a Hugo winner for his work on Doctor Who and SF Squeecast.

The series has been having a terrific year, already winning 3 Eisner Awards for Best Continuing and New Series, along with a Best Writer nod for Vaughan. Described as “Game of Thrones meets Star Wars“, it tells the intergalactic tale of two lovers from opposite sides of a war, running away with their newborn baby.

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers also won an award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form. A complete list of the winners can be found on the official site.

By complete coincidence, Behind the Panels will be featuring Saga as the Kick-Ass Pick of the Week on the podcast this week. That episode will be out on 9 September 2013.
