Support This: Teen High Zombie Squad

Teen High Zombie Squad

There are thousands of crowd-funding projects out there, but only so much money to go around. In Support This, we highlight some of the ones that have grabbed our attention.

As we anxiously await a third volume of The Deep from Australia’s Tom Taylor and artist James Brouwer, the support signal has gone up for a brand new project from one of the creative team. Brouwer, along with Darren Randall and Jeremy Love, are looking for Kickstarter funding for Teen High Zombie Squad. We predict that this would be a wise investment.

The Deep is already an internationally acclaimed hit from Gestalt Comics, and Brouwer is heavily involved in the production of the forthcoming TV series. We don’t have enough good things to say about The Deep, and we’ve already spent an entire podcast episode going on about it. One of the drawcards was naturally Brouwer’s phenomenal art, and for this reason alone any self-respecting comics fan should be investing in this book.

Darren Randall is a writer, director, animator and artist who has worked on projects like Happy Feet 2, Star Wars the Force Unleashed and Saints Row 3. Brisbane based Jeremy Love is a concept artist who’s game credits include Hellboy, The Clone Wars, and the recent Avengers game. He’s also been a concept artist on The Chronicles of Narnia. There’s some serious talent here, and two-thirds of it is Australian. This is how we take over the world, people!

Sounding like a cross between The Breakfast Club and 80s monster invasion films, an enticing prospect if ever there was one, the gang is aiming for $30,000 to complete their 120 page graphic novel. The official synopsis and some concept art follows:

After a seemingly routine lunch break detention, four teenage misfits find their school has been deserted and nothing is as it seems.

They’re soon confronted by hordes of their mutated classmates and monstrous faculty members hungry for blood.

It’s up to four unlikely heroes from completely different worlds to save their high school and home town from a full scale invasion.

For as little as a $1 you can support this project, but for a mere $15 you can snag a PDF copy of the book, along with some other digital gubbins. Printed copies start at $30, and go all the way up to a $2000 pledge, where you get an exclusive figurine set. Very cool.
