Tom Taylor takes over Earth 2 in October

Earth 2

It was previously reported that writer James Robinson would be exiting Earth 2 after issue #16, and now DC Comics has announced via MTV Geek that Australia’s Tom Taylor will be taking over the title in October.

Taylor, best known at the moment for his work on the Injustice: Gods Among Us tie-in comic and his superb graphic novel series The Deep for Gestalt Comics, said in a statement: “I’m a big fan of what James and Nicola have created so far with Earth 2, and I’m honored to be adding to this world, with its rich characters and its many mysteries.”

With Nicola Scott remaining on the book as an artist, making this an all Australian team on a major US publication. Taylor added: “Earth 2 is entering a new age, and I’m thrilled to usher in this new age with my good friend, and fellow Australian, Nicola Scott. It was good of DC Comics to give Australia our own Earth to play with. We’ll try not to wreck the joint.”

Last week, Scott exclusively told us at Behind the Panels some of the direction the book would be taking under Taylor, although she could not reveal the writer at the time:

“It’s interesting. It’s going to be a slight detour from where the book has been going, but only slight. One of the great things about Earth 2 is that we’ve been building very slowly, just lacing in little details, about the state Earth 2 is in. That it’s not actually…a parallel to Earth of the primary DC Universe. It’s considerably more corrupted, and we’ve been sort of slowly but surely getting to a point where we’re revealing exactly what this Earth is…The nice thing is that the new writer gets to take that revelation and twist it in an interesting way”.

And we now know who that new writer is. Congratulations to Tom and Nicola, and we look forward to seeing this book hit shelves in a few months.

Robinson, meanwhile, will pen an original graphic novel for Marvel with Mark Waid called Spider-man: Family Business.
