Marvel has announced that the new writer of Inhuman, one of them flagship titles that will launch out of the current Inhumanity event. Charles Soule will replace originally solicited series writer Matt Fraction. This follows the announcement a few weeks ago that Inhuman had been delayed from January to April 2014.
“Years ago, young(er) Charles made up a list of Marvel characters that would be a blast to someday write – my Marvel Dream Team, basically – and the Inhumans were on that list,” says Soule in a Marvel press release. “So getting an opportunity to work with those awesome, strange, classic characters, as well as to expand the existing mythology into cool new places is pretty extraordinary. Infinity and Inhumanity work as amazing springboards to new stories and new characters, and I cannot wait to create them!”
Speculation has originally been around series artist Joe Madureira’s ability to maintain a monthly schedule, with Fraction already leaving Marvel’s Fantastic Four and FF to concentrate on Inhuman, along with his Image Comics projects Sex Criminals and Satellite Sam. However, Bleeding Cool cites “creative and editorial disagreements over the book”, but adds “Fraction and Marvel are happily working on other projects”.
Soule is not without his own hefty workload, already working on She Hulk and Thunderbolts for Marvel, along with Red Lanterns, Superman/Wonder Woman and Swamp Thing for DC Comics. Over at Oni Press, he’s also got Letter 44 as an ongoing. Clearly, whatever issues Inhuman has aren’t an obstacle for this busy writer.
“Inhuman #1…thrust[s] the Inhumans into the spotlight as the newest power players in the entire Marvel Universe!
