Following the reportedly amicable departure of Edgar Wright from Marvel’s Ant-Man, the studio has now reported that Peyton Reed will take over as director for the film. Writer Adam McKay will be “contributing to the film’s script”.
Reed is best known for the cult-hits and comedies Bring It On, The Break Up and Jim Carey vehicle Yes Man. McKay was previously rumoured to be the frontrunner for the directorial gig, but publicly removed himself from the race. He will be presumably be re-working Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s original version of the script. McKay, as a former SNL writer and scribe of the Anchorman films, mostly confirms that it will be a solidly comedic take on the superhero genre.
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
Marvel’s Ant-Man is still set to be released on 17 July 2015 from Disney.
