With X-Men: Days of Future Past looming large on the 2014 release calendar, and the previous announcement that X-Men: Apocalypse is due in 2016, attention has turned to the next sequel to James Mangold’s The Wolverine, thanks largely to his active Twitter account. Mangold confirms that a Wolverine film will follow Apocalypse, although it is unlikely we’ll see it before 2017.
While Hugh Jackman’s involvement is always pending on his commitments beyond the next film, James Mangold is already on record as being involved in the next film. A Twitter punter asked him what his plans were for the future, and got a pretty concrete reply:
So there you have it: straight from the Mangold’s mouth. Or at least his fingertips. With X-Men: Apocalypse not due to start filming until sometime in 2015, development on this story is a while away. Suffice it to say that Fox are committing long-term to the X-Men franchise, so we are unlikely to see them playing with The Avengers on the big screen any time in the near future.
With rumours that Jackman will bow out of the role after this one, can we please have an Old Man Logan adaptation please?
