There are a lot of eyes on Australia’s Gestalt Comics right now, mostly thanks to the Comic Book Heroes documentary that finished airing on ABC1 last night (and is currently available on iView for Australian residents). The local publisher with eyes on the global market has taken the opportunity to annouce a slew of upcoming new titles.
The first big new project announced is M.I.D.A.S. written by Tom Taylor with Mikiko Ponczeck on art duties. Scheduled for release in November 2013. This one has been on the cards for a little while now, so it is good to see it finally coming to light as Tom Taylor’s DC Comics and Dark Horse career sky-rockets.
A beautiful first look at Nocturne, the second book in the “Walled City” trilogy, was also released. It’s the follow-up to the Communication Arts award-winning His Dream of the Skyland, written by Anne Opotowsky with Chinese-colonial inspired illustrations from Angie Hoffmeister.
The cover art to the completed Unmasked #3 was also released, written by Christian Read and illustrated by “Australian comics legend” Gary Chaloner, who also appears in one of the other announcements made this week. (The first two issues were done by Emily Smith). Unmasked #3, the third chapter in a saga about supervillains-turned-mere-criminals, will be released digitally on Graphicly, Amazon Kindle and iBooks on the 28th August 2013, with ComiXology to follow! So there’s really no excuse for not picking up a copy in some format.
The Undertaker Morton Stone #1 is being digitally released in October, with a print collection slated for 2014. These classic stories from Gary Chaloner, Ben Templesmith and Ashley Wood, are being reprinted for the first time along with new material featuring Justin Randall and others.
Stay tuned for more announcements! In the meantime, support Gestalt Comics by buying directly from the publisher!
