Being a blogger type on the Internet is a bit like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle: you look for the straight bits around the edges and the sky is big, blue and frightening. In the lead-up to the Avengers sequel, we’ll look for any bit of information to jam in sideways, whether it fits the picture or not. We’ll make it fit, dammit!
Fortunately, this latest bit of information comes directly from the Joss Whedon’s mouth. Speaking with the Empire podcast on the release of the fabulous Much Ado About Nothing (go see it!), he mentioned that the villains in the sequel would not be a rehash of the first film. Instead, we won’t see Loki (Tom Hiddleston) at all.
Everyone is going to be looking for the Loki-Hulk smash moment and you’ll be looking for quim. First of all, imitating what I did before is the surest way to do it not as well. Second of all, Loki’s not there to say those terrible things. Although I do think we should bring the word back. Not as an insult, it’s just a nice word.
However, the character will be available for visual delight in Thor: The Dark World.
Also speaking about the characters of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, at least one of whom will appear in Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, Whedon gracefully sidesteps committing to any details. However, he does note that the characters were always in his version of the Avengers, and that “they’re not there to make things easier for the Avengers…”.
Let’s jam all that into our puzzle then, shall we?
