As we are covering Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth Saga on the podcast this week, this latest bit of news couldn’t have come at a better time. There were many lamenting the lack of a Dredd 3D sequel (including the makers of the official comic sequel), and filmmakers Steven Sterlacchini and Michael Carroll would have been chief amongst them. To that end, they have created a highly anticipated 27-minute fan-film called Judge Minty, following the titular character on the beginning of his Long Walk and his first adventures in Cursed Earth.
Judge Minty (Edmund Dehn) is getting old, and finds that his reflexes aren’t what they used to be when he is injured on duty with Judge Dredd (yes, that’s award-winning artist Greg Staples). Once he ends up hospitalised and thinking that people aren’t so bad, it is resolved that he must retire. So he takes the “Long Walk” into the Cursed Earth, where he will go out bringing “law to the lawless”.
The Long Walk was introduced in 2000 AD #147, in the 1980 story “Judge Minty,” written by John Wagner.
We have embedded this film here that is available online, but we encourage you to go check out their official fan film site at http://judgeminty.blogspot.co.uk/. The images and characters are all copyright Rebellion.
Watch this and rejoice. There really are some clever people out there!
