Just a few days ago, it was revealed that Oscar-nominated actress Glenn Close had joined the cast of James Gunn’s adaptation of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, former Doctor Who companion Karen Gillan has also joined the cast.
Details on her role were slim, but the source did know that “she will play the film’s lead female villain”. Speculation has already ranged from Ra-Venn to Nebula, Thanos’s granddaughter. The former carries some weight, given the rumours that Lee Pace will be playing Ronan the Accuser, and the two are known associates in the Marvel comics. Plus, she’s a redhead. Speaking of redheads, there’s always the outside chance that the cosmic Inhumans will make an appearance, and Gillan could be Medusa. We just got excited at that prospect.
Other cast so far include Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Zoe Saldana has been offered Gamora. Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace and Michael Rooker are all said to have roles in the space epic. Glenn Close is playing a leadership role in the Nova Corps.
Guardians of the Galaxy is released on 1 August 2014 from Marvel Studios via Disney.
