Marvel has now officially confirmed that writers Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve will pen CAPTAIN MARVEL, the 20th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will mark the first time that an all-female writing team has been behind one of Marvel’s flagship films.
Perlman will be familiar to Marvel fans as the co-writer of last year’s Guardians of the Galaxy with director James Gunn, while LeFauve is behind the script for Disney•Pixar’s next big film, Inside Out, due to be released in June.
There are few plot details surrounding CAPTAIN MARVEL just yet, given that it is 3 years and 8 films away from release. However, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has previously indicated that it will be the Carol Danvers version of the character, making it the first female-led Marvel film to date.
Carol Danvers first appeared in 1968, but became Ms. Marvel in 1977. Her powers are the result of an explosion that turned her into a Kree-Human hybrid, a concept that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is playing with while introducing the Inhumans. It is unknown whether or not this version of the story will make it to screen. She became Captain Marvel in 2012 in an acclaimed run by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick.
CAPTAIN MARVEL is set for release on 2 November 2018 from Disney.
