With Marvel’s Secret Wars current raging, it has been speculated that the publisher is planning a full reboot reset of their line. Now thanks to Mashable, Marvel has revealed some of their plans and a teaser image. Marvel will reset many of their titles to issue #1s, along with introducing “a new Spider-Man, a new Hulk and new team-ups never before imagined.” In short, it’s the ALL-NEW ALL-DIFFERENT MARVEL UNIVERSE.
The most salient detail was the sheer number of books that would be part of the reset. The new books, says the source, will total 55 to 60 in total and will include new costumes, character shifts, and new creative teams for the new and existing titles.
If you are thinking that this sounds very much like something that’s already been done by the Distinguished Competition, Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso heads that off at the pass. “There’s no red sky, there’s no icecaps,” he said, referring to DC Comics’ skies synonymous with a Crisis event. “But there will be new places on the map, there will be new characters that were just too cool to not bring back from ‘Secret Wars.’ There are new teams that are necessary to deal with new threats.”
The event will pick up 8-months after the end of Secret Wars, and Alonso notes that one of the most controversial choices is probably the fact there there is a new Hulk. He also teases: “Who is Wolverine? You’ll have to read and find out.”
As for the image itself, the characters of note are Phil Coulson, Spider-Gwen, Spider-man, Sam Wilson as Captain America, Steve Rogers, Black Panther, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor, The Vision, Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales the Ultimate Spider-Man and an updated version of Red Wolf.
The ALL-NEW ALL DIFFERENT MARVEL UNIVERSE is set to launch in the US “Fall” 2015. We’ll try and get our heads around it between now and then.
