After a week of of teasing readers with vague images labelled “Are we…?”, “Is she…?” and so on, Marvel has finally revealed that it relates to their Inhumanity event in December. The event will follow Infinity, giving us the new status quo in the Marvel Universe and a whole lot more Inhumans walking the Earth. It will be written by Matt Fraction and artist Joe Madureira. Below is some new cover art from Olivier Coipel.
Originally announced back in July, it promises that it will “jumpstart a long-dormant genetic inhuman strain. It leads into a global crisis overnight in the middle of, and coming out from Infinity.” Fraction has also previously said:
“Our focus characters are drawn into the palace intrigue of this shattered Inhumans Royal family. It becomes a superhero story and a mythical story, all revolving around turning the world into a world full of superheroes. It’s giving us a chance to get back to a classic Marvel metaphor of alienation. We’re telling science-fiction stories, but really it’s about race, gender, sexual equality. It’s a very relevant, pertinent metaphor.”
The teaser art was released with “They walk among us. All will be revealed, September 18th!”, which would presumably coincide with the release of an Infinity tie-in issue due out that week.
