2014 is getting scarily close, being just on the other side of Christmas and its related festivities, and Oz Comic-Con are hard at work putting together what promises to be a stellar line-up for their third and largest year of ‘cons. IDW editor Bobby Curnow and artist Dean Rankine will be heading to the Adelaide/Perth shows, while actors Eddie McClintock and Paul Eiding can be found at the Brisbane/Sydney legs later in the year.
Bobby Curnow is an editor at IDW, responsible for titles such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, My Little Pony and Godzilla. He has also written for a number of those series, and has worked some of the biggest licences of IDW’s roster. Curnow will be doing portfolio reviews at the two cons, and registration for portfolio reviews will be at the information booth on the event days. OCC advises people to get in early, as places will be limited.
Artist Dean Rankine‘s distinctive style will be known to Australians from such publications as KidZone and Australian MAD, but has also contributed to the UK’s long-running book The Dandy. His Christian comics material can partly be found in his book of modern parables, God’s Love is Like a Conjoined Twin, as well as his Webcomic Nation site. More recently, he has been recognised for his work on The Simpsons for Bongo Comics, bringing a unique spin on familiar characters.
Every kid of a certain age will know Grandpa Max in Ben 10, or if you’re a bit older, Perceptor in the original Transformers series. Paul Eiding has voiced them both, along with countless TV, film and video game appearances over the last few decades. He’ll be in town for the inaugural Brisbane and Sydney shows in 2014.
Last, but certainly not least, is Eddie McClintock, best known for his role as Pete Lattimer in Warehouse 13. McClintock has been in the role since 2009, during which time he was ranked by BuddyTV as #82 on “TV’s Sexiest Men of 2011” list (Daniel Dae Kim of Hawaii Five-0 came in at #81). So just remember to look your best if you’re lining up for photos with the star.
