With all of the attention on Man of Steel and its potential sequels at the moment, it was very easy to forget that another Zack Snyder project is coming out in the near future. The prequel to his 2006 adaptation of 300 was coming out in August, and a new poster has just been released reflecting its March 2014 release date.
Based on a proposed follow-up series by Frank Miller, 300: Rise of an Empire will partly tell the backstory of Persian “god emperor” Xerxes, with Rodrigo Santorro reprising his role from the first film. Noam Murro is directing, with Snyder acting as co-producer. Other cast members include Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Callan Mulvey, David Wenham, Hans Matheson, Jack O’Connell, and Lena Headey.
Of course, we can’t let a post go by without some mention of Man of Steel. It is Superman Month after all. Mondo has released to beautiful posters from two of their best regular artists. The first is by Australia’s Ken Taylor, and while it is simplicity itself it says more about Clark Kent than almost any comic book on the market today.
Martin Ansin’s poster is simply stunning as well, channelling Alex Ross to bring us something modern yet timeless. Unlike Mondo’s normal sales, the Ansin one won’t be as limited, printing as many as they sell within a 72-hour period from 12:01AM CST on Friday, June 14th! Get in fast, the offer is never to be repeated. The last time they did this, they sold 9000 The Dark Knight Rises posters.
