Entertainment Weekly has confirmed what we long suspected: Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) will appear in the forthcoming television series, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She is set to appear in the pilot, with plans for other cameos as well, but it will not be an ongoing role as yet.
Joss Whedon commented on the inclusion of Smudlers, who was last seen in the role in the big-screen adventure The Avengers:
“I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS S.H.I.E.L.D. She’s cool and commanding, and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s. Also, if she’s in it I get to hang out with Cobie.”
Further commitments are still difficult for Smulders due to her work on How I Met Your Mother on a rival network. However, there are suggestions that she could always join the team during the show’s second season. Fingers crossed.
Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will debut on Tuesday, September 24 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
