The Hollywood Reporter is doing what it does best and is reporting that Deborah Ann Woll has joined the cast of Marvel’s Daredevil for Netflix. She will play Karen Page, who originally appeared in the comics as a secretary at the Nelson & Murdock law firm and as a love interest for Matt Murdoch. Woll is best known for her role as a redheaded vampire in HBO’s True Blood. Now that’s some casting with bite!
The character appeared all the way back in Daredevil #1 (April 1964), and stayed as a love interest for Daredevil until he revealed his secret identity to her. This ultimately let to their break-up and her departure from the book in issue #86 (April 1972). She would briefly serve as a supporting playing in Ghost Rider (!), before being brought back by Ann Nocenti in the award-winning Daredevil #227 (February 1986), where the character was fleshed out and given more emotional material to run with. She would continue as an on-again-off-again relationship for Murdoch, until her ultimate fate was sealed in Daredevil vol. 2 #5, (March 10, 1999), during Kevin Smith’s wonderful “Guardian Devil” run.
Ellen Pompeo previously portrayed the character in the 2003 Mark Steven Johnson adaptation of Daredevil, although most of her scenes wound up on the cutting room floor.
Woll joins a cast that already includes Charlie Cox in the lead role of Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Elden Henson as Murdoch’s law partner Foggy Nelson and Rosario Dawson in a yet to be identified role.
